The
German Ski Club of New York (GSCNY) is a year-round community for skiing and much more! During the winter months,
members are involved in recreational as well as competitive skiing. We have an annual Club Race for all ages and
skill levels, and some members are active in ASRA and Masters racing as well. Our club is part of the
New York Metropolitan Ski Council, and we also send racers to their annual interclub race event. Unique to the GSCNY,
however, is our summer home on a private lake in Harriman State Park, where members spend their summer weekends enjoying camping,
swimming, boating, sailing, hiking, mountain biking, badminton, and more. We also love a good party: our annual summer
celebration is the Spring Dance, and we often hold weekend theme parties, such as lobster-bakes and Rock Night. -
In the winter, further activities include occasional informal ski trips (weekends at
Edelweiss Ski Lodge in Londonderry, VT, and at Riedlbauer's in Round Top, NY, are becoming new traditions), our annual Christmas
Party, and a "Day on the Ice" at our lake at Camp. Our annual Fall Hike also begins at Camp as we explore the trails
of Harriman State Park. Meanwhile, club meetings are held regularly at the American Turners Club in Throgs Neck (Bronx), NY
- a central location which is easily reached by our members who live throughout the Tri-State area. - Our membership include families, singles, and couples, so all are welcome! Not everyone is of German heritage anymore,
but prospective members should bring a ‘Bavarian good-time attitude’ as well as a general appreciation
for a nice ‘Kaffeeklatsch’ (coffee, cake
& conversation) and, naturally, German beer.
